spysweeper

Posted by dapaowang at 08:19 PM on September 3, 2004.

guess what?

Nothing was wrong with my computer all this while. the graphics card was not spoilt, neither was the motherboard going mad.

Its all cos of one stupid idiot software called spysweeper that i downloaded to keep out spyware!!! Cos that thing has this auto-protect function that runs in the background. And this function is actually so intensive that it can take up almost 100% of the memory in one shot, which explains why my computer will jack up for like 3 or 4 seconds in spasms all the time.

So a note to everyone out there. DO NOT download this software called spysweeper by webroot. IT SUCKS BIG BIG TIME.

Internet reviews have already proven that. no denial needed.

halfway thro

Posted by dapaowang at 01:18 AM on September 7, 2004.

I am almost halfway thro an economic geography reading.

I dun really understand why people must study economic geography.

Even worse, i dun understand why people can like economic geography.

Even worst, i dun understand why i took that stupid module when i could have taken catchment.

In other words, I dun understand a lot of things.

But the issue at hand now is, I simply dun understand this stupid reading.....

And of cos, many other economic geography readings.....

For a classic example of people who write simple ideas with complex words, simply look for an economic geography reading...... bound to make u feel like puking.

Mad....

Freaking mad.....

Fucking mad............

brinjals and ladyfingers and bittergourds

Posted by dapaowang at 09:11 PM on September 12, 2004.

I love the above 3 kinds of vegetables.

Actually i m not too sure if they are technically defined vegetables in the first place.

But anyway, I think bittergourd is very nice. Especially when fried with black bean sauce and fish slices.

Brinjals are great when fried with chilli and prawn paste.

Ladyfingers taste nice even when cooked in water, but are best when fried with prawn paste and chilli as well.

I dun understand why people like cai xin and other boring vegetables that are green with worms on them. I think the 3 above are the best.

Although i used to hate them when i was young, i shall admit. They tasted great to me only when i grew up... as in really grew up like 20 or something.

Eat more vege especially if u dun wanna sound like jerry yeo. we all know what terrible disease he suffers from.... i mean not disease, lets call it a syndrome.

end of half a sem

Posted by dapaowang at 01:47 AM on September 18, 2004.

half a sem has ended....

One week break is here finally....

or rather 3 days break is here cos i have classes on thursday and friday and i have to be in school most of the time during the break to discuss presentations and projects and stuff.... so its not really a break..... ah duh....

Well anyway cyclohunt is coming up tml.....

Hope to win something leh....

But given my kind of fitness condition, i think can forget it also la.... going to drag the team down with me.... haha...

Ok ok that wun happen..... i am afterall a good cyclist ok.... hahha...

Plus i have enoch's brother super powerful and light bicycle.... yeah thanks to gay boy i managed to save 10 dollars to rent a bike....

Has been a while since i last cycled. Last time was during FOC... and it was anyway a pretty slow experience so i shall not count it as anything.... except that it was quite fun la.....

U guys should check out this link above. I mean, u all should go download this one hour video documentary and watch it. If you have watched fahrenheit 911, then all the more you should watch it...

I've been pretty much into this michael moore stuff lately..... watched bowling for columbine, fahrenheit and now this documentary. Makes me happy that i dun stay in America, or rather that i am not American.

But then again, this is too simplistic a reason to say that being in america sucks or being an american sucks or what. I still believe its a great country that is often masked from the fact that it provides so much for our social experiences. Much as we like to critisize McDonaldlization and McDisneyization and all that global capitalist discources, we should however not forget that what constitutes us is pretty much "American" in one way or another.

Our position as Singaporeans should be a bit more self-critical instead of simply taking in all the hegemonic views that are being propagated by the media.
****************************************************

Anti-globalization groups like to protest globalization. Yes this world sucks. But anti-globalization groups uses the internet to spread their ideas through the online media as well. Now, the internet is one of the main tools of globalization. If you hippies want to protest this seemingly increasing interconnection of the world, dun use a weapon of the pro-globalizers.

Its like using a knife stained with your own blood to try to kill others again.

But then again, does globalization even exist? Its all a discourse isnt it? Doesn't colonialization constitute traits of globalization? Besides who defines what the hell is globalization? Its academics for goodness sake. Why let your perceptions of the world be affected by a few people who write stuff to make themselves famous and earn more money?

This whole network of states, academics, political leaders, extra-national organizations all form a network of complex relationships in shaping the world we live in.

Next time the government says: "Terrorist threats is threatening the whole of Asia. We need to be on alert all the time."...... think hard and wonder whether this really makes sense.

By the way, newest information i got from somewhere.

The United States Governemnt has till today not produced any substantial evidence that Osama or Al Qaeda was responsible for 9/11.

Yahoo news has just announced that a weapon inspector from US has stated that Iraq contains no weapons of mass destruction. So what is so many troops from America doing in Iraq dying everyday?

Bush said the war against Iraq was to liberate the people. It was a war against the terror. My question is what terror and where is the terror coming from? The only terror i see happens to be the mouth of bush himself though.

Bush said once: "This is a message to all countries out there. You are either with us or against us. Choose." I choose to be against you deep in my heart, but my head tells me to be with you in case u decide to make Singapore your next target. I mean who knows, if they suddenly find a hell lot of bloody oil under our little red dot island, we may just be responsible for the next attack on the Pentagon.

This is very one sided.

Too bad.

I dunno how i happened to come to this topic..... but well anyway...

cyclohunt 2004

Posted by dapaowang at 11:53 PM on September 20, 2004.

Ok I shall admit that I am a fat lump of shit......

But anyway, me and my wonderful group comprising of "I dun need change gear" Noel, "Super" Chin and "I am old and cannot make it" Fabian managed to come in a credible 5th or 6th admist all that tough competition.

Tough competition as in those super pro looking guys with buldging muscles and bicycle tights with their 1000 dollars mountain bike or road bikes......

So.... comparatively, i think we really did very well. Come to think of it, we completed the 8 checkpoints in 3 hours 47 mins. And that was like the toughest 3 hours 47 mins i ever had this year..... haha.....

Anyway, the checkpoints we got were, in order, old airport road, bugis village, Chinatown, Bukit Merah Central, Harbourfront, Holland Village, Sixth Avenue and SMU. And the organisers said that was the simpliest route. I cannot imagine what the other groups got then..... haha....

Some slopes were killer..... there is this one slope that joins SMU to orchard..... that one i cycle until i wanted to cry ah..... hahha..... And oh my goodness, super chin was speeding past me up the slope as if it din require any effort at all..... I take my hat off her.....

Anyway we hardly rested throughout the whole thing. Super Chin was so on that she din even let us take a break for more than 5 mins... haha.... ok, a bit exaggerated..... more than 7 mins la..... hahhaa..... The moment i reached back ECP, i just got off my bike and din touch it the whole nite. Any more sitting on the bicycle seat is a torture...... haha.....

Anyway since super chin had the car that night, we bundled into her car and went to bedok to eat bah chor mee, then went to fabian's house to watch animal planet and MTV channel b4 heading back to ECP for the prize giving. Saw the sunrise there, not too bad a view in my opinion......

Overall the event was pretty good la..... the organization was not too bad. The 25th comm looks good.... hopefully they will look good the whole year....

danger

Posted by dapaowang at 02:58 AM on September 23, 2004.

cycling is actually quite dangerous. I could have gotten killed last saturday if i was not careful.

Trekking is also very dangerous. There are like so many times that i could have slipped and fell into god knows where.

Actually a lot of things i do are dangerous.

But then again, everything entails a risk here and there doesnt it. No matter how big or how small, risk is always there.

So I always advocate that we live our lives without any regrets everyday...... want to eat, then eat, want to sleep then sleep.... but of cos need to study, pls study la.... although i find that quite hard to do....
cos at the end of the day, we may just be gone one day in a flash.... hit by flower pot, trapped in mulfunction lift, bang by car, slip and fall.... the possibilities are endless.

I'm pretty sure some pple will never agree on this attitude towards life.

Well

Who cares.

23rd september 2004

Today is the official 4th month anniverasary of me owning my samsung handphone...... haha......

So happy anniversary my dearest handphone, my sole inspiration in life, the very essence of my existence and my faithful companion.

And how did i happen to know today is the 4th month?

Cos i opened my handphone box to check where was my warranty card cos it needs a damn repair cos one of the buttons has lost sensitivity and is screwing me up big time.

What an irony..... having to celebrate an anniversary through knowing the faults of it.

Happy birthday my samsung X600A..... and may the number 3 button regain its sensitivity soon.

sheares Bridge Run 2004

Posted by dapaowang at 05:54 PM on September 26, 2004.

60,000 people.

Me and Super chinz.

Ah Boo din bring his handphone and we could not find him.

Ended up running with super chinz only.

60,000 people.

Super Chinz: Out of the 60,000 people here, do you think half of them are army boys?
Damn-shack Tai: *pants* I...... think....... more...... than.... half *pants*

Super chinz: Let's overtake the person in front
Damn-shack Tai: *pants*..... *struggles to run faster*.......
*Super chinz overtakes with ease*......

Super chinz: Is it a rule for all army people to tuck in their shirts?
Damn-shack Tai: *pants* ..... yes.... *pants*

well anyway, it was a funny feeling frankly to go to the sheares bridge run as a civilian (as in not army boy).... cos the whole place was simply flooded with army boys singing in loud voices and such a sense of comaradrie..... which is well, kinda naustalgic really cos i used to be part of that some years ago.

But i dun really miss those days la frankly..... nothing much to miss about it.

But well, as i was like running down the road this morning, I heard a very interesting conversation.

Situation: Yellow shirt guy run up to red shirt guy
Yellow: Hello man!
Red: Hey hi man. Long time no see, how are you?
Yellow: ya la, not bad la. U what unit now ah?
Red: *mutters something*..... U look very familiar leh, where i see you b4 ah?
Yellow: *look of smirk-ness flashes across face* (I dunno if i interpreted his look correctly though)...... *yellow shirt guy keep quiet*
Red shirt: *keeps trying to guess where he see yellow guy b4*
Yellow: *run away without giving the red shirt a chance, nor even tell red shirt the damn answer*

Anyway ya, this is really quite bo liao.....

Thighs hurting a bit now......

6 hours

Posted by dapaowang at 05:52 PM on September 30, 2004.

My prof just said today that we have at least 6 hours everyday to study. I think he is pretty right. At least in my case. But am i utilising all this time? No i am not. And i dunno why. Dun ask me why. I'm afterall a whiny squirmy procrastinating idiot.

Stark warning came today about class participation in class. People who do not contribute to class participation are condemned to low scores for that 10%. Frankly, I do not have a problem with talking in class. But somehow i am just so overawed by the knowledge flooding thro my head that i have nothing to ask. Most of the time, people are just mind-blank more than have nothing to say or rather know everything and nothing to ask.

But reality sets in as such..... You dun talk, you dun get that 10%. Stupid system. But thank god it is 10%. cos i know of a lot of people who are brilliant in producing a piece of work but seldom good in articulating his/her ideas.

Reality again shows that companies prefer to hire people who are outspoken and confident in articulation. Reality as such......

Reality. what is real anyway?

escapist: reality is a frame of mind. It does not exist.

Materialist: reality is all about money and capital accumulation.

Me: fuck reality.
